The Jonathan Wilhite Pick
Written by New England Patriots on April 27, 2008 – 1:31 pm -I like what the Pats have done up to this point but I really dislike this pick. I watched a lot of Auburn football the last couple of years and teams targeted Wilhite every single week. The Tigers had a strong defense but Wilhite was the guy opposing offenses would constantly exploit. Hey, maybe he has something I didn’t see watching games on TV but Wilhite is a player I’m not high on at all. If you have an Auburn game on tape from last year, pop it in and you will most likely see a receiver beating Wilhite like a drum. Sorry guys, I liked the first three selections but this one I just don’t get.

Should have taken Joshua Barret instead. You can never have too much depth at safety. Oh well..

I thought you liked OConnell? (The 4th PIck)
I don’t know enough about this guy to not like him. So I will not like him on Tom’s word. But I have not really been excited about any of the picks since Mayo. (To be fair, I never am)

Mayock liked the pick. Then again we could have drafter Erick and he would have liked the pick.

NFl.com has the following analysis on wilhite:
Wilhite is an undersized pass defender with excellent foot quickness and speed to cover receivers on deep routes. Even though he gives up considerable height to bigger opponents, he has the leaping ability and body control to compete for the jump balls.

One reason teams threw at Wilhite is because the corner on the opposite side of the field was better.
But I think Wilhite struggles to make the 53 man roster. He’s got practice squad written all over him.

Looks like another Randall Gay to me. Another tiny titan. Probably injured more often than not. Maybe kick returner ?

Ah, I understand now. If Wheatley or Wilhite can stand on Hobbes’ shoulders, then, their combined heights will actually permit them to cover the likes of Plaxico Burress…My Kingdom for a giant CB, you know, one who;s 5′11 1/2″.

New England should draft Vince Hall or J Leman. They would fit easily. Hall could take over colvin’s spot if Mayo doesn’t work.

Also they should get mike hart. Maroney needs work.

TD ; Yeah if Hobbs isn’t injured and out of position. I’m hoping someone can come in and take Hwy 27s’ job.

To address the whilite pick, i say that they should of picked up Leman, Goff,Hall, or Dejuan Tribble. Anyone besides whilite! Tribble would of helped Hobbs. Just kidding about Hobbs. No way he gets help because its impossible to teach a backup good skills.

Jay Dee ; Silva’s okay for a little guy, but I’d rather see someone Harrisons size. Yeah, Harrison gets hurt too, but it’s usually because he hits so hard, he breaks his own bones.

We won’t be asking him to turn and run with #1 wr’s in our defense. He should be covering quick slots and split TE’s in our nickel and dime coverages, as well as playing special teams.

Lol TD. I just don’t know what is going on with this draft and these picks. Oh well hopefully some of them will pan out. Hey TD atleast we got depth at cornor even though if you stack them above each other in a hole they won’t go very deep.

Overall this has been just an ok draft for the Pats. I love the Mayo pick. I like the Crable pick only if He turn’s out much better than Pierre Woods has.
I think Dom Capers has his work cut-out for him with the current secondary and the newbies…. I also, think the Pats were not pleased to miss out on 2 solid corners in Charles Godfrey or Chevis Jackson in the begining of the 3rd round, which is why they bailed on their 3rd pick to Sand Diego. The QB O’Connell is intrigueing as a possible backup to TB.
All in all I’m not jumping for joy with this draft so far. Maybe my expectations were too high.

I think the New England patriots did good by picking Wilhite as their 4th round draft pick because he got speed, he’s athletic and I think that he is more then ready to play at that level.
