Paul’s Calls: Faulk, Pats agree on deal

Written by Paul Perillo on March 10, 2010 – 4:17 pm -

One of the more curious elements of the early going of free agency for the Patriots has been the lack of movement with regard to Kevin Faulk. It now appears as if a deal for the veteran running back is imminent.

From what we’re hearing an agreement has been reached but nothing has been signed. Not sure what the details of the contract are, but all signs point toward Faulk returning for his 12th season in New England.

Faulk was asked about the lack of movement in his negotiations in Tuesday’s Boston Herald and clarified reports that indicated he’d yet to receive any offers from the team.

“They have made me an offer, for the record,” Faulk told the Herald via text message.

Evidently, either the team improved that offer or Faulk has decided to accept it.

    what was the deal worth

Good move! He hasn’t lost a step,he’s a great locker room leader,an on field leader, and a saftey net for QB Tom Brady! As it looks so far,Brady will need Faulk as a guy who knows this system, with the Pats looking for a Wide Out a veteran like WR Brandon Marshall,Derrick Mason, even Tory Holt? They still have to learn our play-book!So, a guy like RB Kevin Faulk will be a safetey net for Brady! This was a smart move by BB and Co.
Now, Go Get a better than average Wide Out! Denver’s WR Brandon Marshall would be the 1st choice,I would say!Marshall and Moss will do some big time damage to opposing defenses! Also, if Moss leaves after next season,we will have Marshall to keep the #1 spot! He’s a #1 WR on any NFL Team!Marshall and Welker on the same team, that would be HUGE! They have finished 1-2 in catches the last 2 seasons! Moss,Marshall on the outsides and Welker in the slot! How would team’s defend that? Can’t double everyone!
    GO GET MARSHALL!!!!

  3. Sawyer Says:

This could be one of the best signings of the year. Last year we had 2 guys that seemed to play heart and passion and the other guy is is home with a limp knee.

  4. Tommy Says:

Honestly better off prying Leon Washington away from NY unless Kevins deal is reasonable. Love him, he’s made some great plays over the years but Washington is an explosive back and under utilized by the Jets. Washington can score from anywhere on the field, makes big runs and can catc the ball effectively. My .02cents

  5. Tony Gonsalves Says:

Kevin Faulk should retire as a Patriot. He will know when it’s time to hang up the cleats.

  6. Sam in Chicago Says:

Oh Faulk! The only thing I care to remember about the last game the Pats played was Kevin Faulk trying to rally the team on the sidelines. They need an emotional leader( and he’s not a bad player either;) and I hope he’s truly back…

  7. Sean Gurdon Says:

Hey I’m a big fan of da pats nd in my house there is a Lot of football talk and alot of madden nd I was wondering is the patriots gonna be looking for a RB in this years draft or free agency also what are we planing to do about Wes Welker nd Randy Moss because who is going to be replacing Wes because of his injury nd I’ve been hearing rumors around the league that this is Randys last year so I was wondering what we are going to do about that if he does leave

  8. Guy Says:

Gotta love Kevin!!! He deserves this just off the back of his performance in the Ravens loss. A true Patriot who’s lead by example attitude would have been sorely missed!

  9. bryce Says:

Thought Faulk showed alot of heart in the Ravens game-he gets it! as for many others on this current roster, the heart just does not seem evident !….

  10. James in Wales Says:

Great news. Glad they got it done.

Congratulations too for getting this post linked to from NFL.com:

  11. Dave O Says:

Nice, I love Kevin, he’s done so much for this team. Whenever they need something he usually pulls through. I say usually because of the infamous 4th and 2 play in Indy which I don’t believe is all Kevins fault even though I believe it was a bullshit call as far as him not making it. Anyway I’m glad Kevins coming back for a 12th if anything the youngins need his leadership. Onward and upward.

  12. L Miller Says:

Kevin Faulk (one of my favorite players) is Troy Brown, at the running back position. Does everything in his power to win. I’m glad to hear that Kevin is back.. Go Pats!

  13. Josh Says:

It’s about time the Patriots are showing some commitment to some of their veteran players. I love the fact that they are giving Faulk, Wilfork, Banta-Cain and Neal the opportunity to come back and play for this franchise. Although we as Pats fans are always angry with their lack of movement when signing free agents from other cities, we have been upset in the past because of their lack of resigning our favorites here in New England. It’s good to see that they are finally placing some real value on the guys who have laid it on the line for us over the past few years! I love the Faulk deal, hopefully it goes through! His talent as a third down back in this league is underestimated and he challenges for the award for best in the league! Way to show the love Pats!

  14. shawn Says:

great siging by the patriots, and a show of faith, keeping what i think is still one of the best third down, go to guys in the business.Add another receiver and a defensive pass rush with the draft, to go with what is still one of the best offenses in the league. and we can compete for another super bowl title

  15. Charrosh Says:

Good for Kevin and the Pats! A guy that can always be counted on for big plays and a great locker room guy! For the record, he made that first down in the Indy game too! Hopefully he will retire a Patriot!

  16. Chriswithatian Says:

Nice! I have a soft spot for Kevin like I had for Troy.
Plus Kevin is still very much on top of his game and didn’t look like he slowed down last year.
We all know the value he brings to this offense.

  17. WALTER Says:

COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED TO A BETTER PLAYER.. MR K IS LIKE THE ENERGIZER BUNNY HE JUST KEEPS ON GOING.. ALL THE BEST TO HIM…HOPE IT IS A DECENT CONTRACT

  18. Paula Says:

It’s about Time they resign Faulk Smart move

  19. Dylan Jackson Says:

I am happy for this signing because is is one of those guys who won three super bowls with the pats . i dont even know how few of those players the pats have know. we need that vetran leadership to get these guys all pumped up for games and start giving them confidence to play in the nfl and win games. and about the free agency thing the pats are trying to stay young to be good for a long time. remember our last big free agent signing with adailus thomas, and how well did that work out. moss and welker were trades just to remeber everyone. free agency i feel hasnt worked in our favour the past few years unless we get the old guys. young talent is the way to go if you get the right players.

  20. Jeremy Soliday Says:

Well deserved. Faulk us given us some great years and has always kept his mouth shut and has done what the team has asked no matter what. A real team player always moves down the list so other backs can try to shine but faulk always ends up with a better year then they do. As long as he plays he should stay any other jersey would’t look right on him. My hat goes off yo him for everything he has done and for everything he continues to do for the team. Thank You Faulk.

  21. victoria Says:

this is good, and he DID get that first down last season against the colts.

  22. Stalin Says:

I agree with Brenn, the Pats should go out and get Marshall or even give TO a shot! No one would be able to stop those two! LT for the RB position, he would be a great fit in the system he still has some fuel in the tank.

  23. Dylan Driskill Says:

great to have in back!! He played his heart out in alot of games this past year…so now that he is back, its time we focus on a 2nd WR position. IF ANYBODY FROM THE NEW ENGLAND STAFF IS READING THIS, GO AFTER BRANDON MARSHALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. John in GJ Says:

Congrats to Faulk. I am sure he knew he’d get a deal after the others were done.He is a patriot though and through.
There is no way this team will ever get a Brandon Marshall. It is more the Pats style to go get a Domenick Hixon or even Derrick Mason. Then Draft Golden Tate.

  25. John in Dallas Says:

I know the Pats have been getting some slack from the fans on lack of “big name” FA signings, but I think their approach this season is spot on. Sign the current players that will be the nucleus of the team, and don’t overpay for FA’s outside the team that will probably not contribute as much on and off the field. Nice to see the Pats step up and take care of their own.

  26. KIRK Says:

Great to have Kevin back in a patriots uniform next year. He is a player that plays hard every game and has a big heart. I got to know him personally years ago and is a class act guy. Good Luck next year Kevin…

  27. Mike m Says:

We need to get CJ Spiller!!!!!
