Quick Kicks: Bodden bidin’ his time
Written by Erik Scalavino on March 9, 2010 – 11:07 am -It looked and sounded like CB Leigh Bodden was prepared to make it official with the Houston Texans over the weekend, but as of 10:30 this Tuesday morning, he still hasn’t made up his mind.
“It’s kind of nerve-wracking,” Bodden said of the free agent process while in Houston Sunday. “It is what it is. It’s part of the business. Hopefully I can get things done with the Texans and just move on.”
But could Bodden be reconsidering?
He might not have been an Asante-Samuel-like playmaker, but Bodden was perhaps the most consistent member of the Patriots secondary last season. His veteran leadership also helped in a group dominated by younger players. It’s not surprising, then, that New England might want to retain his services.
Furthermore, he had nothing but good things to say about the Patriots organization during his one year here, and even indicated several times that he’d be open to returning to New England in 2010.
Reports late Monday had Bodden agreeing to re-sign with the Patriots. Here’s what Bodden’s agent, Alvin Keels, Tweeted recently about the situation:
“Reports of Leigh Bodden re-signing with the Patriots are not true and premature at best … Leigh is still evaluating his options. Leigh has always indicated his desire to return to New England, but nothing is official and probably will not be until [Tuesday] at the earliest.”
That seems to mean that Bodden will be making a decision at some point today. Needless to say, we’ll be monitoring Bodden’s case very closely.

I wonder if his experience in Detroit is making the Patriots a more attractive option. He got a big payday to play for the Lions and was cut a year later. Maybe he prefers to stay with a team that is already sure of the fit. I hope he does stay, it’s like you said he’s no Asante, but he is still a big part of the backfield.

I hope he stays. A glaring need in the secondary is consistency and cohesiveness. More experince and leadership and less disruption will greatly improve the D.

Leigh Bodden was the most consistent cornerback on a Patriot’s team that had way too many defensive woes in 2009. I hope they put him under contract for the next 4-5 years.

Wish we had Asante back, but I like Bodden’s toughness. I think it’s important for players like Bodden, Meriweather, Sanders, etc to play together as long as possible to build some chemistry

Yeah we needed to get younger. But for god sake, if we still have a veteran playmaker, and he’s consistant KEEP HIM. We can coach him into a Samuals. Butler and Wilhite aren’t ready!!!!!

i might be the only one who doesnt miss samuels,(keep seeing him miss that interception in s.b. against giants)i also dont miss watching e.hobbs the third getting repeatedly burned either.

When Leigh Bodden was still with clevland and as a starter i felt like he was one of the best corners in the league with his six picks in last season with clevland. he is a better all around gover corner than asante samuel. asante just jumps routes and gets burnt quit often. leigh bodden is way better

With the signing of Bodden the patriots have one less hole to fill come draft day that will allow them to fill voids at other positions.

Why is everyone so gaga over Samuel, Nobody remembers how many times he got beat only the interceptions. Bodden could at least tackle, Samuel looked like a child trying to tackle men. We need Bodden to teach Butler and our younger guys how to play the game consistently!

Bodden is an underated player he was consistently pretty good last year and without him you’d have the pats secondary from 08 which was horrible. Bodden would be considered a much better player if he played with a pass rush to help him. He’s no revis but if he played with a decent pass rush he’d be perfectly suitable. We would really have no where no go to find a decent corner without him because we need to draft an impact pass rushing outside linebacker. The pats need draft well or trade up to get an impact player improve or else they’ll be the same dissapointing team. If the pats offense didn’t blow so many games then the defense would be praised. I know stats are for losers but the pats defense has some pretty impresive stats last year. Almost every game the pats lost last year was the offenses fault. The defense would keep getting them the ball back while the offense dissapeared in the second half and eventually the defense would finally blow it.

Good pick by the Patriots, When you think of top corners out there i would have to put Bodden in the top ten. The kid has been proving it on the field. I was hoping he went to Dallas but at the same time its good he is there rather than the Lions. Skins needed someone like him and being that he is from the DC area that would have been a good look for the team as well!!!!!!!! I am scared to see what he does this year. Check his states and you will see that its just getting better and better
