Getcha popcorn ready: Pats to open 09 at home vs Bills on MNF

Written by Erik Scalavino on March 23, 2009 – 4:15 pm -

New England will open the 2009 season as the first of a two-game doubleheader on Monday Night Football, September 14. The Pats will host division rival Buffalo, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. Eastern.

The matchup is tantalizing on a number of fronts: Tom Brady’s return, Terrell Owens’ first game as a Bill, the 40th season of Monday Night Football, and the 50th anniversary of the Patriots (and other original AFL teams).

NFL owners gathered at the league’s annual meeting in southern California have finalized some of the 2009 season’s premiere nationally televised games, with the Pats getting one of the prime, primetime slots. The full NFL schedule will be announced in early April.

good stuff - guess the league figures that they should get some Bills games televised nationally before T.O. ruins that franchise. Works for us Pats fans out here on the West Coast - don’t have to go to the sports bar for that one!

Unfortunately, this seems to be the only good opening weekend game. Pitt and Tennessee are ok, but the Bears and Packers should be a snooze fest, as should the Raiders and Chargers after the Pats. Finally, when will the NFL finally alter Thanksgiving? Detroit and Green Bay, (again) and the Raiders and Cowboys? When did Oakland become a prime time team? Get someone good in there…

YES!! Bring em on!! I can’t wait to see this one. I’m not a T.O. fan at all. HUGE Pats fan and can’t wait to see Brady’s comeback. I have goosebumps just thinking about him being on the field again. Only good thing about winter is football. I’m crossing my fingers they have another amazing season. win or lose, I absolutely LOVE THEM. GO PATS!!
