Tom,
So what’s your overall opinion on the Pats draft? I’m a little confused. I don’t think they blew it but I didn’t understand some of the picks. I know being a Pats fan we’re supposed to say in BB we trust but they really haven’t been the draft genius’ they have been tauted as. They have no more success than the next guy. BB gets the genius title when it comes to coaching and managing the salary cap. I’m not on board when it comes to the draft.

Arizona signed Highsmith and New England Patriots - LB Vince Redd
April 27, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Where are you guys finding this info? I’m desperate to read a more comprehensive list! Also, according to Sports Illustrated, Vince Redd looks flat out amazing:
“Redd, who began his college career at Virginia before transferring to Liberty, turned in a workout for the ages. He measured 6-6, weighed in at 263 and then turned in forty times that ranged in the mid-4.5 area, with some stopwatches reading 4.48. He also posted a 39-inch vertical jump and 9-foot-10 broad jump.”
That could very well render the Crable signing irrelevant.

Its nice to see that the 3 Hawaii WR’s got picked up.
April 27, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Andrew, I’m sorry, but WAY too much stock is placed in measurables. I highly doubt that an undrafted player will have greater impact than someone picked in the 3rd round. Let me see some tape first, then I’ll make my decision. Anyone remember Bethel Johnson?

Ravens also signed your boy McClain.
April 27, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Oh, sure, I understand that, but the possibility of a solid developmental project training alongside Vrabel and Thomas just excites me. Aside from the measurables, I had a difficult time finding any other info about him, though he did produce a good number of TFL and a fair amount of sacks (7.5, I believe).

Jamie silva from boston college signed with the indy colts.
April 27, 2008 at 11:47 pm
I believe Vincent Redd only did 13 bench reps, so he needs to hit the weight room, but damn if the size/speed ratio isn’t intriguing. He left VT for disciplinary reasons, I beleive, so he’s got the talent to be at that level if not the attitude.

I’m reading Patriots will sign D-lineman Chris Norwell of Illinois and LB Vincent Redd of Illinois State
LB Jameel McClain was signed by the Baltimore Ravens.

Rob A. What’s worse is that Bethel was a second round pick!!!! Esssshhhhh
April 28, 2008 at 8:25 am
Isn’t Anthony Alridge the RB from Houston?
April 28, 2008 at 8:38 am
Anyway we can get a comprehensive list of these signings? Especially the Pats ,d those you PWF guys thought the Pats should look at?
If that’s true about Highsmith and Silva going elsewhere, that’s too bad.
April 28, 2008 at 2:32 pm
These guys are undrafted free agents for a reason. While it would be awesome to have a player like Silva who played in Mass, he won’t be doing much for the team. It’s interesting to see who teams picked up, but these players almost have no shot at playing time, let alone making the team this fall. There’s no reason to get excited or upset about any of these signings.
April 28, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Here is a list from 3 sites, none authenticated but they are likely:
Vince Redd LB Liberty
Mike Dragosavich P NDSU
Chris Norwell DE Illinois
Jon Stupar TE Virginia
Ryan Wendell C Fresno State
Kenny Cattouse RB Troy
Josh Coffman OT ECU
Keith Saunders DE Alabama
Casey Tyler DT Portland State

Vic Carucci is an idiot. He thinks that the Pats taking Jerod Mayo in the first round was a reach. Not just at the 10th spot though, just as a first round pick period. Not sure who he’s been watching, but Mayo was the best linebacker prospect in the draft. (And yes I’m including Gholston in that because I don’t think hes going to be as great as everyone thinks)
April 30, 2008 at 9:09 am
OK, why is no one talking about Dragosavich? This guy AVERAGED 58 yards per punt - unless they use a very different ball in college, or he has a hang time of 3 seconds, thats going to be a serious addition to special teams.
Cheers,
Davo
