Terrence Wheatley
Wow, the Pats really liked this guy. I know they had shown a lot of interest in Wheatley but I was thinking of him more as a late-round pick. This was another shocker in a day of shocking picks. I’m going home.
By the way, nice pick by the Cowboys in Round 2. A tight end? Have you seen your depth chart at safety? What a joke.

Dan Connor as our first third round pick perhaps? If hes still available I can’t see them passing on him. He’d be a good run stuffer sort of like Ted Johnson, and he would add good depth at linebacker.

I really like this pick. He’s a shutdown-caliber corner.

The first pick I loved this is just a reach. and a bad pick. I don’t understand. they could have had great value with Dan Connor to add another good young linebacker while still be able to pick this guy with either the saints pick(which would still be a reach) or the other two picks in the third round. bad pick.

I’m surprisingly happy with this pick (although what happened to Dan Conner?). He seems to put in the time off the field, is very quick and should relieve the stress on the starters in the return game.

Who? Although if the pats liked him enough to seemingly reach for him he is at least interesting.

I got nothin.
I listen to PFW to much to get football I guess.

From what I read on his NFL.com scounting report it looks like he could be a keeper. My take is if he didn’t have wrist issues he would have been rated much higher. Also, its ironic he is most compared to ELLIS HOBBS. I know alot of people are down on Ellis, but I am one of his biggest supporters. The guy plays hurt all the time and can lock down receivers i.e. Reggie Wayne in the 2006 AFC Championship Game.
Good Day 1 for the Patriots!

hey tom you’ve got to be happy with the jenkins pick great value

Are you serious? The patriots take a player who I thought would be a 4 round player at best with their 2nd rounder? His wrist is permanently fused together, and when he played against NFL receivers, he would be abused. I really wish they went Chevis Jackson here. Can you give your opinion on this pick Tom?

If he’s compared to Hobbs I don’t want him. How many corners do we need that give a 15 yd cushion? Hopefully, he plays tight and doesn’t have the injuries.

This blows. He would’ve still been available at any of their 3rd round picks.

Guys, I’ve had time to think about it and I just don’t understand the pick. You all know that I never pretend to know more than the Patriots brass, so I trust their judgment. However, I can say if Jerry Jones made this pick I would be going nuts.
Todd,
I like what Dallas did in the first round. I even like the Jones pick. Looking back at it, they really don’t need Mendenhall. I love him but Barber is going to carry the ball 20 times a game. Jones is an excellent complement to him and can provide big plays in a number of different ways. Jenkins was one of the top picks in the draft. Cason, Jenkins and DRC were all excellent picks by their respective clubs.

Bellichick picks corners better than anyone alive. He found Samuel in the fourth, Hobbs in the third, and Gay outside of the draft. What do those three guys have in common? All started in superbowls. So while Wheatley is a “reach,” I think when it comes to CBs we have to give bill the benefit of the doubt.

I like this pick. The guy according to all reports has good ball skills and ghe’s played hurt. I think he’ll turn out to be a good addition to the team. I’d like to go with a reciever with 1 of the 2 early round picks and either a corner or LB with the other. I think thw Pats hada great day 1 and I’m looking forward to day 2.

Maybe Dom Capers had influence in this pick. If you are going to bring in a defensive backs coach/special assistant you need to allow him some influence. This is just a WAG of course.

Are you trying to say Ellis Hobbes was a steal in the 3rd round? If anything, looking at this career thus far, that’s exactly where he should’ve gone, if not even a bit of a reach.
Randall Gay started in a Super Bowl. Yeah, and he got torched. What an accomplishment. Again, for an undrafted FA, you got maybe a little bit more than you expected.
And Samuel was obv. a great pick.

This was one of the more surprising picks of the draft for me. At first I was pretty confused, but looked up some film on Wheatley and thought that he jumped off the tape. Seems to have a good nose for the ball and sound instincts. I don’t want to pull a Fred, but I think I like the pick.
