Reggie Smith at 62
The PFW consensus for the 62nd pick is CB/S Reggie Smith out of Oklahoma. Smith has that position versatility the Patriots crave, similar to Brandon Meriweather. Smith started at both corner and safety for the Sooners and is a playmaker with good range. We all think Smith would make an excellent selection for the Patriots at the end of Round 2.

What, no Groves?
April 26, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Quentin Groves if he makes it. I still think the Pats need to address the front seven.
April 26, 2008 at 7:49 pm
Veteran trade with one of the 3’s?
April 26, 2008 at 7:51 pm
We were thinking Groves would be gone by then. If he’s there, we’ll take him.
April 26, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Reggie Smith would be a really good pick but I agree with Will and Ethan; Quentin Groves at that spot would be a steal.
April 26, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Let’s cross our fingers! I want a defense that can disrupt!
April 26, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Tom, I know the Patriots and a lot of other teams covet that versatility that a player like Smith could contribute, but wouldn’t you rather have a player that is great at one position as opposed to good at multiple? I think we can get by at safety, I’d rather see them draft a player that can be a staple at CB.

So did you guys here…Jason Taylor may be headed to Tampa. Reported in a couple of places.
April 26, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Why not trade up to get Groves?
April 26, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Ben,
Smith is a safety but he can line up as a corner in nickel and dime situations. That’s what I mean by flexibility. He would play safety though and that could be a position of need if Meriweather moves to corner full-time.
April 26, 2008 at 7:56 pm
At 12 picks away, it is not outa the range of possiblity.
April 26, 2008 at 7:57 pm
What about Dan Connor or Justin King?
April 26, 2008 at 8:00 pm
I could see Groves replacing Rosey Colvin. I loved Colvin, but obviously he will not be back. I know Adalius and Vrabel can rush from the edge, but wouldn’t it be nice to insert a young rusher in the mix. It would be too good to be true.
April 26, 2008 at 8:01 pm
you must be a Penn State fan
April 26, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Well if they move Meriweather to corner, I’m game. I like him better there.
April 26, 2008 at 8:01 pm
I’m not too excited about Meriweather playing CB full-time. He along with James Sanders will make a great safety combo if they’re left to grow together. Besides, call me crazy, but I think selecting Jamie Silva later in the draft will be a steal and he can become a starter evenually at safety and contribute on special teams immediately. I’m liking the Groves selection that’s being talked about.
April 26, 2008 at 8:05 pm
The way teams are drafting right now enough good players are falling that we have a good chance to get some steals with our 2nd and the 3rd from Oakland.
April 26, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Tampa must be trading
April 26, 2008 at 8:06 pm
I know its kind of homerism but I agree Jaime Silva would be a great late round pick. The guy always made plays. He reminds me a of John Lynch-type. Not the most physically gifted, but just knows his way around the ball. Tom Zbikowski has the name, but in my mind Jaime Silva will be a better pro.

Will fred reach orgasum if Dan connor falls to the pats?
I hope we get limas sweed. Matching him outside with moss would be sick.
April 26, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Definitely Pablo. I’m befuddled by alot of these picks.
April 26, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Groves goes to Jacksonville
April 26, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Many bad words.
Well goes another dream.
April 26, 2008 at 8:08 pm
I will tell you one thing. It is evident Jacksonville is trying to follow the Giants model. Groves and Harvey. Great day for them!
April 26, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Well that’s Groves gone. I guess if Bill wanted him he could have traded and got him, so he probably doesn’t like him. In Bill we trust
April 26, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Oh well, there goes Groves. At least he’ll knock Manning around a couple times a year.
April 26, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Bye Groves….
Go Smith? I guess…
April 26, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Well there he goes….
April 26, 2008 at 8:13 pm

April 26, 2008 at 8:16 pm
yOU wont regret it–take reggie
April 26, 2008 at 8:17 pm
I’m glad he’s gone (he’s too much of an injury concern) - let’s focus on Dan Connors right now. Who is the best pure CB left?
April 26, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Hey Tom what’s the chances the Pats trade away their #2 for Lito Sheppard? Weren’t they asking for a 2nd round pick?
April 26, 2008 at 8:51 pm
guess i still cant root for pats–no sooners–see ya
April 27, 2008 at 12:03 am
I say grab Reggie in round 3. he’s better than Wheatley
