Kirsch Kronicles — Wed/Thurs

First off, I apologize for my blogging lapse. I just haven’t had time to sit down and gather my thoughts. Yesterday was a hectic day. On top of the work we had to do for the team, Thursday was the day when all the friends and families descended on Scottsdale. Not a bad thing but very disruptive.

Other than being a runaround day, Thursday was fairly calm in terms of news. It was the last day of full team access much to the relief, I’m sure, of all the players and coaches. No new ground was covered for those who have been following the Patriots all along. For those who haven’t you learned that Stephen Neal used to wrestle, Laurence Maroney likes Kool-Aid and Bill Belichick takes it one game at a time.

On the Giants side, there weren’t any late week bombshells for the bulletin board. If anything, it’s the Giants who have all the material, supplied by the countless media stories and people like the Mayor of Boston talking about parade routes.

Friday was a different matter. We woke to the story of Sen. Arlen Specter saying he is suddenly interested in Commissioner Roger Goodell appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee to explain why he destroyed the tapes supplied to him by the Patriots last September.

Is he for real? This unabashed Eagles fan, the Friday before the Super Bowl, now wants answers? Do these politicians really take the American public for complete and utter fools? We’re not supposed to see through his grandstanding much less the misuse of an elected official’s time and power?

Goodell’s penalty may have been harsh but in my opinion it was more for the blatancy of the act than what was on the tapes or what they were being used for. It’s written everywhere that the Patriots were “caught” filming an opponent’s sideline. Caught? New England had a member of their video staff, in Patriots clothing, standing in broad daylight on the field with a camera on his shoulder. Does it sound like they were caught or they were worried about being caught? Think about that. Goodell made an example of the Patriots for being so bold in violating a league rule. That’s why the penalty was so severe. If Specter thinks he was going to find out who was behind the Kennedy assassination by having those tapes, much less why his beloved Eagles lost the Super Bowl to the Patriots, I think he’d be disappointed.

Ridiculous.

wow i was going to give the giants a chance but now that spygate has been brought up again i think the pats are going to win by at least twenty. i think bill will make the offense throw for touchdowns from their own twenty with four seconds left, up 60 - 10, just to emphasize the f+++ you to the league. i feel sorry for the giants already.

As I commented on the other entry–as Steve Young noted in a rare moment of clarity–and as Rob notes: Congratulations! You have just pissed off the Patriots again!

Who will they take it out on?

This will end badly for Specter.

Ok, am I the only person who thinks the senateshould be able to find something more meaningful to waste my tax dollars on? Like oh say the war, healthcare, etc…I couldn’t believe it when I saw it on at work today!!! Get a grip!!!

  4. Steve Marshall Says:

Sounds like someone is taking advantage of all the media focus of the super bowl to air their complaint to me.

  5. Art from Maryland Says:

Doesn’t Sen. Specter have better things to work on like tax reform? A war? Inflation? National Debt? Has he and his congressional peers solved so many of these problems that they now have time to look into a matter that has been handled by the NFL; quite harshly at that. This guy is a joke. Their talking about some guy that has video that could damage the Patriots. Well, if he has it I guess the Pats didn’t have those video to turn into the NFL. I almost forgot why I hate the Steelers and Eagles so much. Their fans and Sen Specter is a prime example of one of their pathetic fans. I can not for the life of me figure out why this is a congressional issue….WTF Senator get your head out of your fourth point of contact!!!!

  6. thedoctorx Says:

He could do what the idiot in this “Planet Mickey” on WEEI is doing, which is to blather about JFK conspiracies.

What that has to do with sports I do not know. . . .

God, I can’t wait for Sunday

  8. Anthony in NC Says:

Apparently Specter doesn’t remember that the Eagles spent the 4th quarter, down by 10, casually huddling (and vomiting) during their final scoring drive, wasting precious time. Regardless if the Pats cheated, the Eagles had a chance, and they, themselves, blew it. I get sick of bitter haters, especially when they are in positions of power or influence (Specter, Tom Jackson, Bill PoLION, etc).

  9. victoria Says:

What a moron Spector is,(I always thought so,now its proven)
Yammering about a supposed cover up??Goodell for president!!!
please voter of philly-vote this slob out!!!He is wasting time and money
could sunday night come any slower?????????

I can’t believe that dinosaur Specter is still alive. Now he’ll come up with another Magic Bullet theory, that the Patriots actually lost all 3 Super Bowls, but the scoreboard was “untrue” or “mistaken”. I’m glad to live in Canada if your elected officials are using your tax dollars for $hit like this. I’ve never hoped for a blowout in the Super Bowl, but I think we’ll have one Sunday because, as has already been stated, “you’ve just pissed off the Pats AGAIN”. Dumb and dumbest

  11. Brad Hughes Says:

Specter has the gall to talk about a coverup, after he helped draft the Warren Report, the biggest coverup in the history of the universe. Idiot

    Anthony in NC:

Last night–probably last-last night by the time this gets posted–one of the ESPN channels repeated the highlights of the XXXVIII Super Bowl. During that fourth quarter, as you probably remember, the Patriots had the ball. They, wisely, ran it to avoid an interception in their own territory. They ended up giving the ball back to the Eagles twice. Had they scored either times, the game would be essentially over, particularly given the “hurry-up offense” of the Eagles.

    Oh wait!

Belichick was, according to Specter, cheating! So would he not been able to read the Eagles defense and get at least one first-down?

Oh, I guess Evil Darth Belichick’s Plan [Tm.--Ed.] accounted for that . . . he did not want to give it away . . . so he intentionally ignored the Eagles’ defensive signals those two potentially game-ending drives. All part of the Evil Plan [Tm.--Ed.].

Typical conspiracy theorist: whatever evidence comes out, he will bend to support his conspiracy. He probably thinks Belichick poisoned McNabb’s Chucky soup!

    victoria:

Sadly victoria, Specter is playing right into the wants of his constituents. As revealed by PFW Progress, it seems Specter gets quite a bit of money from Comcast! It is all gravy for him.

My sarcasm is directed toward Specter, not Anthony in SC in case I was not clear.

  14. jen Says:

The crazies on ESPN today were completely giddy about this story……o well on sunday night we will get to watch the painful looks on their faces as they pretend to be happy for the pats!!

  15. rich Says:

Will you be posting .mp4 files of Patriots Today from 1/30/2008 and 2/1/2008?

    Please.

  16. Russell J Says:

Spector is as dirty & corrupt politician as there is in any office today. He should be investigated for his Comcast Kick Backs Alone. Seems there are powers that be looking to tarnish all that Bill & Tom have accomplished since 2001. Casale & the Gang of PFW Rule.
