Answering the tough questions

January 23, 2008

Since we’re still more than a week away from the game and the hype hasn’t really even started yet, I thought I might try to answer a couple of the questions that we seem to get on a daily basis throughout the season. Despite the fact that we’ve addressed these ‘hot topics’ numerous times this year, we still seem to get besieged with people wondering two things: what are the markings on the field at Gillette Stadium and why do the players have a No. 91 decal on the back of their helmets?

The answers are simple: the markings represent the Gillette Stadium logo with the lighthouse and bridge while the 91 decal is the number worn by the late Marquise Hill, the defensive end who died this summer while trying to save a friend from drowning back home in Louisiana.

While neither of these has anything to do with the Pats run to perfection and a fourth Super Bowl title, they seem to be on the minds of many Patriots fans nonetheless.
