According to PFW’s Andy Hart, Billy Yates will make the final roster and could replace Russ Hochstein, who Andy believes could be a surprise cut.

Wasn’t Yates the highest-paid practice squad player in the league last year?

I recall the Patriots offering him regular roster money to stay on the Patriots’ practice squad.

He was also called up for a playoff roster as a little bonus when a regular roster player was injured.

The Pats have clearly thought highly of him. However, he will have to be able to snap to make the roster. Hochstein can play guard or center, so he is the sole back-up center. That gives him an advantage.

The Pats have had some success trading away offensive linemen in the past. Gorin and Tucker were both traded last year during the pre-season. Although Warren Sapp might disagree, I think Hochstein would have some value and could command another one of those sixth-round picks.

Yates was actually playing some center today. That will be something to keep an eye on as we move forward into the preseason games.

Yates takes some snaps at center and now you are chuckin Hochstein ??-no way ! Hochstein is valuable and versitile while Yates is playing to save his career after breaking his leg last season and played sparingly leading up to the break. If you are BB and Koppin is hurt-who you puttin in ? Hochstein played 16 games last season to Yate’s 4- duribility goes to Russ, sorry Billy -but keep workin hard your time will come!…..

I say try to trade him and Nick Kaczur for some picks like they did for a few players last year.

Russ has been with us is a strong presence in the locker room, and he is aproven back up who has won super bowls, why are talking about him getting cut or tradeed? If we trade him its a downgrade I think.
