Wes Welker caught a short pass from Matt Cassel and was popped by Ellis Hobbs. Welker fell to the ground but no harm was done.
Cassel threw a dart to Ben Watson in the back of the end zone for a score. Watson beat Eric Alexander on the play.
On the very next snap, Tom Brady connected with Jabar Gaffney for a scoring strike in almost the exact same spot. Gaffney beat Tory James for the TD reception.

Brady and McDaniels should write that spot down!

Boy o boy do I love seeing Jabar catching TD’s, I really fell in love with Gaffney last year in the playoffs and wish we had him for all of last season I really think he would have led the team in receptions. Although it worries me to see that Tory James let up a TD, how is the old guy doing other then that TD he let up? With Chad Scott out for the season which broke my heart by the way, it seems to me that James could very well be the starter next to Hobbs. James has a nack for being where the ball is and has a lot to offer. With Asante out and Scott on IR I hope James still has gas left because Gay can’t stay on the field.

I’m not as bummed as some other people are about Scott going down. Yeah, I respect his talent, and it’s bad timing with a shallow core of DBs, but look at this way: If this guy can go down on the first day of training camp (it was the first day right?), on a play with NO contact, how long was he really going to make it into the season? Better to get guys like Gay and James the reps early on so they’re ready, because Scott clearly had durability issues.

Will B that has to be one of the dumbest things that I have ever heard. Just because Scott landed on his leg wrong doesn’t mean that he has durability issues. This type of thing happens all the time to people in sports its called a freak accident.

i was just gonna say the exact same thing Mr. Ed. Good call.

I don’t know, I think I side with Will B on this one. A freak accident might be how Rodney got his knees taken out from under him, or before that how he came down in a tangle and landed on his elbow awkwardly. Chad Scott jumped into the air, and landed, and got a season ending injury. What’s freak about it? You can say it’s unlucky, but don’t tell me a pro footbal player who can hurt himself jumping has great durability to survive an NFL season.
