Take the rest of the day off

July 29, 2007

As practice is winding down, there really isn’t anything to relay. Other than the PUP guys coming out to watch practice, not much happened as there was no contact and the drills aren’t being run at full speed. I’ll be back on Monday for what is certain to be a much more spirited practice.

Not much happening

July 29, 2007

As expected, there is very little going on right now. The offense is running plays but the players are going half speed at best. Looks like it’s going to be a bit of a break for the players this afternoon, before stepping it up again on Monday. If anything happens, I’ll let you know but don’t hold your breath.

PUP guys make an appearance

July 29, 2007

Because this practice is basically a walkthrough, players like Richard Seymour, Troy Brown, Donte’ Stallworth and Chad Jackson have made their first appearance of the young season. None of the players on PUP are participating in any of the drills, although they all appear to be in good spirits.

Kyle Brady - who missed the morning session - is back at practice taking part in all the drills.

Sunday afternoon practice inside

July 29, 2007

Sunday’s afternoon practice has been moved inside because of the rain and is now closed to the public. There probably won’t be much to report from this one. It has been cut down to an hour and players will be practicing in just shorts and jerseys. We’ll pass along anything noteworthy, but it’s going to be a limited practice.

Running time

July 29, 2007

The offense and defense got together for some 9-on-7 work midway through the morning session. Ryan O’Callaghan lined up with the first group at right tackle, replacing Nick Kaczur, who occupied the spot the first few practices. On defense, the front consisted of Jarvis Green, Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren with Mike Wright rotating in with Warren. Kevin Faulk took the majority of reps carrying the ball with Sammy Morris getting some work as well.

Welker’s human

July 29, 2007

Despite evidence to the contrary thus far in training camp, it appears that Wes Welker is human after all. The diminutive wideout, who has caught everything in sight thus far, actually dropped a well-thrown pass despite not even being covered at the time. The lively crowd on hand moaned its displeasure — or shock — as Welker bent down to retrieve the ball.

Zach Thomas in the house

July 29, 2007

One brave soul chose to don an aquamarine Dolphins game jersey with the number 54 on it. The Zach Thomas devotee drew the ire of Patriots fans seated in the grandstand along the side of the practice fields but was underterred, raising his arms over his head and even facing the field for full effect.

Up and running

July 29, 2007

We’re ready to go here at the morning session. The players are in full pads this morning with a lot of pre-practice drills being done thus far. One item of note based on the early work was Sammy Morris taking reps as a kick returner. Kevin Faulk and Laurence Maroney were paired together to start the drill, then Ellis Hobbs and Willie Andrews replaced them. Morris was paired with Wes Welker while Gemara Williams and Bam Childress finished things off. Also, as was the case on Saturday, the Oklahoma coaching staff — led by head coach Bob Stoops — was on hand.
