Awesome blog, guys. Thanks a million for all the updates. And great job on the podcasts, too, Tom, Andy, Paul and Frank.
You’ve got Chris Houston now ranked as the #1 CB overall. What do you think the chances are that Houston’s still on the board at #24? Do you think the Patriots would take him over the other names we’re seeing (Griffin, Merriweather, Ross, Nelson, Posluzny, Staley, etc.) if he’s there?

It depends who is available at the time but if Houston is still on the board at 24, I think the Patriots will take a long look at him. However, I’m not sure if they’ll go corner in Round 1. It depends on whether or not they really like a particular corner and how they feel about the Samuel situation long-term.

Bravo on J. D. Nelson and Melvin Bullit… those two guys stuck out to me as the kind of player that could really shock people in a couple years.

Yeah, I have to chime in on this. This whole site is fantastic. Thanks for all the work you guys have put into it! Thank god my wife fell asleep early tonight.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it’s much appreciated. Although I can’t say writing about football is actual “work” but we’re glad you’re enjoying the blog. We have plenty more coming over the next few days so make sure you keep checking back.

Hey Tom, this is my Pat’s mock:
1a) Brandon Meriweather
1b) Dwayne Bowe
3) Daymeion Hughes
4) Prescott Burgess
5) Laurent Robinson
6a) Deandre Jackson
6b) Craig Dahl
6c) Mkristo Bruce
6d) Paul Soliai
7) Ronnie McGill
What do you say?
April 26, 2007 at 9:07 pm
I like your mock Jimmy, although im not that high on Bowe. I’d rather see the Pats go defense with the first 2 picks. Possibly Harris, Woodley, or even if Nelson is still there.
April 26, 2007 at 9:10 pm
I could live with all of those players. We were actually talking today about how we think Mkristo Bruce would be a nice late-round pick for the Pats.

I don’t particularly care for merriweather. i see alot of ppl picking him for the patriots in the first round, and i don’t see that happening. he’s too much of a hassel off the feild and he isn’t as good as other safeties that we could grab, even later in the draft.
i would like to see either willis or posluszny with the 24 pick and nelson, mcauley, or even griffin would look awful good at 28.
also what do you think of the pats grabbing Daren Stone, my homie from maine university? haha i think he would fit nicely in the belichick scheme and he is very talented. plus i would like to see someone from my home state go to my favorite team. =D

I have to agree with your assessment of Hall being overrated… cannot understand how a guy who was torched by Dwayne Jarret is still staying in the top half of first round of many mock drafts… and ppl even go out of their way to say he has the ‘elite’ speed coz he ran a 4.3 forty at his pro day… and these are the same ppl who are downgrading Jarret saying he doesnt have the speed needed for an NFL receiver…

Okay, first of all Daryl, it’s the University of Maine, which is where I am currently writing this message. Second, I think Daren Stone is good, I nearly jumped out of my seat when I saw that he had an 11′ broad jump at the combine. I’ve heard rumors that he could go anywhere in the draft, from 3rd round to not even getting drafted, but the majority of what I hear is 5th round. Do you think it’s possible that the pats take him, he could slide all the way to the sixth round, and if he does it should be an easy pick for the pats since they have 4 picks in that round.

Tom, your sarcastic wit is a great counterpoint on the shows. We listen to all the podcasts and you guys all deserve every penny the Krafts are paying you. With your wedding, the new babies, and Frank’s new car - it sounds like Jonathan needs to pony up a bit more! you certainly enliven our lives down here in Virginia, and Patriot fans are here in large numbers, believe it or not.
Now questions about a couple of guys/ where they will go/ and whether they would fit with the Pats. S Aaron Rouse, VTech, from here in Va. Beach. Just saw a very nice local TV feature on him re the killings last week and he seems the kind of character guy we target. DE/LB Victor Abiamiri, ND. Do you know if Charlie is touting him? Any value there? Like last year surprise Corey Mays who nobody talked up and he worked his way up into a regular contributor? Thanks and this blog is great.
April 27, 2007 at 2:29 pm
Bill,
Thanks for the kind comments. We all love Rouse. He’s a killing machine on the field. I heard he got into some trouble after delivering too many borderline shots last year and that caused him to pull back a little bit. I think he has the tools to be a terrific pro player.
Abiamiri is a possibility for the Pats. He’s a little raw but would be an attractive option in the third round if he’s still on the board. Take care.

What do you think Tom?!
i believe Stone would provide a solid pick and a great late round gem. i’ve got about 6 draft books, i’ve been all over the internet and the only thing i see thats concurrent in all of them is, he does not use his size the way he should. 95% of them say that he will be a great starter for years to come, he just came from a small school in maine. I hope he becomes a patriots starter, blossoming under harrison for a year and he would be crazy!
April 27, 2007 at 4:08 pm
Honestly Daryl, I haven’t seen a ton of film on him but from what I saw, I liked. He was athletic and physical. I think he would be a solid sixth round pick for the Pats.

I just watched a highlight reel on Daren Stone. From what i saw he didnt deflect too many passes but he looked like he had good football sense being able to read plays and get to the ball. He didnt seem to miss too many tackles either. Given a year under Bellichick i think he would make a pretty decent S.
